Congratulations to the University of Maryland team who succeeded in hovering for 50 seconds this week.
The Sikorsky Prize requires the completion of three equally difficult technical challenges: To hover for 1 minute, to reach 3 metres of altitude, and to control the helicopter to stay within a 10mx10m box. The University of Maryland”s second helicopter, the Gamera II, was designed to complete the first of the three tasks by hovering for one minute. The team will be continuing flight testing throughout the summer and, without a doubt, will be able to reach their 60 second goal, significantly increasing the current world duration record.
Best of luck U of M!
